Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
